About Us

Where we answer the question. Who are these guys, and what does a dining room have to do with audio?

First off, a dining room has nothing to do with producing audio (though we always recommend a good meal prior to recording) but when you buy a turn of the century house to put your studio in you gotta use some of the rooms for recording. It worked out that the dining room was the first we tackled and the name of course spawned from that.

The afore mentioned house is a 4500 sq ft building that we have painstakingly (so many crazy stories) converted into an audio production facility. I can remember our real estate agent opening the door to our potential new offices; it’s high ceilings, beautiful woodwork, and classic architecture sold us the moment we walked in. It wasn’t until after we had moved in that we realized what a crazy amount of work converting a house into a full service studio really was. Despite the immense task we made it through with a bit of help from our friends and of course sweet sweet credit (thanks Homedepot Credit Card / Visa / Line of Credit, you’re the best / worst).

Dining Room is owned and operated by David Angell and Chris Dorota; two Thunder Bay originals who strive to grow a business that thrives in its community and reaches out to serve the audio production needs of larger market centres. In short, big cities are fun but we like the quiet and low cost of living that T-Bay has to offer. Of course if we need a blast of big city culture Toronto is only a $150 flight away (sometimes $115 if Porter offers one of their crazy deals). Dining Room Studios has in house engineers to service your needs and welcomes guest engineers and producers to use our facilities for their projects (a place as sweet as ours should be shared).

We are tooled to service most areas of audio production including music production, film / television audio (on set and post production including; mixing, foley, ADR, soundtracks), commercial radio, and live audio capture for concerts. And hey, if you manage to make it all the way to Thunder Bay, we can even put you up (and as a bonus, we’ve got a professional cook ready to make you a meal).

We have a great portfolio on the site and we hope that you’ll check it out. If you’re interested in speaking with us about your project don’t hesitate to call or email at the contact information listed below.

We look forward to hearing from you.
